Theodor Seuss Geisel (March 2, 1904 — September 24, 1991) was an American writer, poet, and cartoonist, best known for his classic children's books under the pen name Dr. Seuss, including The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. His books have become staples for generations of children and their parents. Among Dr. Seuss' trademarks were his rhyming text, trisyllabic meter, whimsical landscapes, and outlandish creatures. He had 46 children's books published that he both wrote and illustrated. 11 of his books have been adapted into short animated programs for television. His books The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, and Horton Hears a Who! have been adapted into feature films, with another film, The Lorax, coming out in 2012. Futhermore, many of his books have been combined and adapted for the Broadway musical, "Seussical".
